Austrian skiing - simply the best!

In our opinion (and we’ve skied most everywhere) Austria offers the best all-round ski experience of any alpine nation. Resorts continually invest in their ski infrastructure - new lifts, new piste and always improved snowmaking facilities. Piste management is second to none and prices are some of the keenest in Europe. You'll always be welcome and you'll always be pleased with the service.

‘The Ski Jewel, kitzbühel
Alps and so much more’
The Kitzbuhler Alps combine seven of the best ski areas in the Tyrol, offering guests guaranteed snow, state of the art cable cars and lifts, more than 1000kms of piste and a myriad of mountain bars and restaurants. Just ten minutes away lies Hopfgarten and access to the magnificent SkiWelt encompassing Soll, Sheffau, Elmau, Going and Westendorf, which itself joins the hills this side of Kitz itself and the skiing beyond at Jochburg, Pass Thurn and Mittersill.
The Ski Jewel, comprising Niederau, Auffach and Alpbach is an integral part of this massive system. Niederau is renowned as one of the world’s best resorts for beginners and families. The extensive nursery slopes are dotted around the village centre while the blue runs on the upper slopes are wide and gentle. There are red and black runs back to the village.
Auffach close by offers a range of slopes - the best is the long blue and red home run. Auffach and Alpbach are joined with a gondola and middle station red piste connection - 130km of piste and 45 lifts.

Further afield but reachable in no more than an hour is Steinplatter - skiing from Austria into Germany, Fieberbrunn offering access to a big day skiing across the Ski Circus encompassing Hinterglemm, Saalbach and Leogang and the whole of the Ziller Valley from Hoch Fungen and Kaltenbach to Mayrhofen and the Hintertux Glacier beyond.

Staffler
Ski Guiding

Every day we offer complimentary ski guiding to the Ski Jewel, all parts of the SkiWelt, Kitzbuhel, Jochberg and Pass Thurn.

Most available on the Super Ski Card here - a combined pass that soaks up more resorts than any other in the world.

Guiding is an opportunity to explore familiar or new piste, resorts, bars and restaurants with Staffler staff who know and love the mountains. It’s about not having to refer to a piste map, suitability of slopes and lifts but more about being able to concentrate on your skiing, in good company and with a common purpose. Guiding never replaces ski school.
Lessons
There are two excellent local ski schools. Like for like prices are generally the same. We generally suggest our guests use Ski School Aktiv as we feel they offer a more personal service. 2023/24 prices not yet available.

Children’s lessons (ages six and above) are for four hours each day, mornings and afternoons. Adult ski and board lessons are mornings only (video analysis included). Activ caters for younger children in their Bambini classes (ages three to five) – a mixture of an introduction to skiing, games and animation and offered as a half-day courses. They also run a popular nursery – Mini Dragons for toddlers between one and three.

Private lessons for adults and children are also available – two skiers included in the price. Please be aware that normal group lessons begin on a Sunday and Monday only.

You can book directly online or discuss your requirements with us. Payment is usually taken on the first morning of lessons.

Skis, boards and boots - plus cross country equipment and toboggans can be organised on arrival at the Staffler or directly online with our preferred supplier - Skis, Board Margreiter, Margreiter's is less than 200 meters from the Staffler, close to Ski Schools and the main slopes and lifts. Prices are available on request. Click on the Niederau outlet for online reservations.

An additional benefit of booking online is the security of reserved equipment – especially important over high season dates and children’s equipment hired for seven days only pays for six.
Equipment
Margreiters offers the largest range and biggest volume of equipment in Niederau and the most competitive prices. Staffler guests also enjoy a 10% discount on published prices and the newest equipment.

Lift passes
The vast majority of our guests, including all those ski guiding with us purchase the Super Ski Card which covers some 22 ski regions in the Tyrol and Salzburgerland, over 900 lifts and nearly 3000km of piste.

Those guests who are beginners or early intermediates or are part of a learn to ski family grouping – especially those with younger children or other members of their party in ski school, normally take the local Ski Jewel pass. Winter super ski passes can be purchased and collected from the Staffler on arrival. 2023/24 prices not yet available.
